RideIt E-Bike Care Guide
A new e-bike should feel smooth, quiet, and easy to ride. With the right care, it can keep feeling that way long after you bring it home.
You do not need to be a mechanic to take good care of your e-bike. Most of the important maintenance is simple: check the tires, charge the battery properly, keep the chain clean, and pay attention when something feels different.
A few small habits can make a big difference. Taking a minute before or after your ride can help your e-bike last longer, ride better, and stay safer.
This guide will walk you through the basic care steps every RideIt e-bike owner should know.
1. Quick Check Before Every Ride
Before each ride, take 30 seconds to check your bike. This helps prevent small problems from becoming bigger issues.
Check Your Tires
Make sure your tires have enough air before riding. Soft tires can reduce battery range, make the bike harder to ride, and increase the chance of a flat tire.
Check Your Brakes
Squeeze both brake levers before you ride. The brakes should feel firm and responsive. If they feel soft, noisy, or weak, bring your bike to RideIt before riding more.
Check Your Battery
Make sure your battery has enough charge for your ride. If your battery is removable, make sure it is locked securely in place.
Listen for Unusual Sounds
If you hear rubbing, clicking, squeaking, or rattling, stop and check your bike. If something feels off, RideIt can help inspect it.
RideIt Tip: If something feels loose, noisy, or different than normal, do not ignore it. Small issues are usually easier and cheaper to fix early.
2. How to Clean Your E-Bike
Keeping your e-bike clean helps protect the frame, chain, brakes, and electrical parts. However, e-bikes should not be washed like cars.
Do This
-
Use low-pressure water only.
-
Use mild soap and a soft towel or sponge.
-
Dry the bike after washing or riding in the rain.
-
Wipe down the chain and moving parts when they get dirty.
-
Store the bike indoors or under cover when possible.
Do Not Do This
-
Do not use a pressure washer.
-
Do not spray water directly into the battery, display, motor, or electrical areas.
-
Do not leave the bike wet for long periods.
-
Do not put oil or grease near the brake pads or brake rotors.
Important: Around the beach, sand, salt air, and moisture can wear parts faster. Wipe your bike down often if you ride near the water.
3. Chain Care
Your chain should stay clean and lightly lubricated. A dry or dirty chain can make noise, wear faster, and affect how smooth your bike feels.
When to Lubricate the Chain
A good rule is to clean and lubricate your chain about every 100 miles, or after washing the bike.
Basic Chain Care Steps
-
Wipe the chain with a clean rag.
-
Apply e-bike chain lube.
-
Pedal the bike a few turns to spread the lube.
-
Wipe off extra lube.
Do not over-lubricate the chain. Too much oil can attract sand, dust, and dirt.
4. How to Charge Your E-Bike Battery
Good charging habits can help protect your battery and keep your e-bike ready for your next ride.
Charging Tips
-
Use the charger that came with your bike.
-
Charge the battery after normal use.
-
You do not need to drain the battery to 0% before charging.
-
Unplug the charger when charging is complete.
-
Do not leave the battery plugged in for days.
-
Store the battery indoors when possible.
Using an Outlet Timer
RideIt recommends using a simple outlet timer or smart plug when charging your e-bike. This helps prevent the battery from staying plugged in too long after it is fully charged.
Most customers can set the timer for about 4–6 hours, depending on how low the battery is.
Charging Reminder: Avoid charging overnight every night. Plug it in, let it charge, and unplug it when it is done.
Long-Term Battery Storage
If you will not ride for a while, store the battery around 50%–70% charged. Keep it in a dry, indoor place away from extreme heat.
5. Tune-Up Schedule
Regular tune-ups help keep your e-bike safe, quiet, and smooth. Your first tune-up is especially important because new parts can settle after the first rides.
First Tune-Up
Bring your bike in after your first:
200–300 Miles
During the first tune-up, RideIt can check brakes, tires, chain, bolts, gears, battery connection, and overall ride condition.
Regular Tune-Ups
After the first tune-up, we recommend service every:
500–700 Miles
You should also bring your bike in sooner if something feels loose, noisy, weak, or unsafe.
RideIt Customer Discount: Customers who purchased their e-bike from RideIt receive 50% off tune-ups.
